Blog Post #12 A Short Film

Hi! This is the last post for this blog. In this post, I wanted to give an overview of what I have worked on in this blog. Thus I created a short film called "A Short Adventure/ to LOOK AT." While I was editing, I thought again that putting soundtrack into film is significant even for a short film. The weakness of film is having natural wind sounds. Eventually putting soundtrack might help a little to make the film fun to watch. I hope you enjoy watching. Those of you who read my blog, thank you very much. I may continue blogging somewhere in the future.

Blog Post#11 Podcast

Hello all! This is going to be the 11th post for this blog. I attached podcast about intervening one of  my friends about  my blog and some questions relevant to blog content. Those of you have read my blog. This content might be interesting to listen as one of the reader's thoughts of my blog. If you'd like to comment about the content of blog, I'll be more than happy to hear that.

Blog Post #10 The Blogger's Experience for Soundtrack

The 10th post is not showing about another soundtrack. This time I introduced my experience with soundtrack.

When I was five years old, I guessed the first foreign film was Harry Potter and Philosopher's Stone (2001). With my father, I was attracted by the story. What attracted was the remarkable soundtrack. I had listened to  Hediwig's Theme so many times that the story came to my mind. Sine I was impressed by the story and soundtrack, I started to watch foreign films.

Star Wars Episode III Revenge of The Sith(2005) is for me another film that could change my life. As I mentioned before, I started to watch foreign films. One more thing I got interested in was paying more attention to what kind of soundtrack was used in film. Like Star Wars, the soundtrack that is played is so huge and memorable. Of course, I like the entire story of the Star Wars series because I may not explain well, but somehow the film could be connected in my mind that how I wanted to work on the rest of my life. At least, one thing I wanted to do was make an effort to go to many countries to build my knowledge of the world.

Soundtrack changed my path to America. Before I was interested in film or soundtrack, I did not have anything to do in my life. However, once I got into film and soundtrack, I could know what I wanted to do. This may be a rare case in terms of listing to music. From my experience, I will say  music, especially soundtrack have that the power of influencing people's lives, people can come back to the music and rethink what film story and what they were doing at the time the film was released.

Blog Post #9 Romance Feature Film Soundtrack

The 9th post is about soundtrack used in romance feature films. Those films are illustrated with more human interactions. How those characters' minds or appearances could be changed by meeting new experience. Additionally, the fans of romance films could be attracted by which actors play the characters.  More than the other types of film genres, romance films could be focused on how characters are related with story. Here is the link about popular romance featured films.

Most Popular Featured Film

Interestingly, the 29th fim is a Japanese film called Your Name(2016). The story is that two strangers  somehow meet in a bizarre way. The distance between the two got closer as long as they were thinking about each other. The supplement experience of film could be biggest hit in Japan since Harry Potter series, Marvel series and even Avatar (2009). Here is the link about the film in Japan, and its theme.

The biggest hit in Japan: Your Name (2016)

There are two other films wanted to introduce from the link above. One is 500 Days of Summer (2009).  The story is that a young man meet and a woman who does not believe in  true love. The whole story is kind of a combination of comedy and love themes. Personally this is my favorite romance film. Here is the them of 500 Days of Summer

The Theory of Everything(2014) is the second film on the list. The story is based on a true story about the life of famous physicist Stephan Hawking. I have seen this film and I was impressed by the story. Here is the theme of The Theory of Everything. I picked up the example soundtrack from its ending scene.

My thought is every romance feature film has the common element that silent gets the audience attention.

Blog Post #8 Jazz Soundtrack in Film

The eight post shows the combination of jazz and film. Some of toy may already known about elements of jazz, but  I did not know much information about Jazz, so I searched the link summarizing jazz. Here is the link.

The birth of Jazz is New Orleans, Louisiana around 20th century. At this time, New Orleans had a "meting pot" culture. Since then, Jazz can be reflected through cultural diversity, In terms of music preference, I enjoy Jazz the most. However, other people may not like Jazz because it does not have the same excitement as other types of music. Jazz may also be hard to be interested in. Jazz is my preference that it makes comfortable and can have some excitement, too.

The link above shows a film using a Jazz soundtrack. If you click on the link, there are some examples. One of the examples I wanted to emphasize is the film Taxi Driver (1976). It uses the element of Jazz, and could represent the sense of story, at least based on my understanding. The others could also be heard different from what you think about Jazz.

Once you watch the film based on Jazz element, you might able to listen to only Jazz. The situation could be true of another style of music, too

Blog Post #7 International Soundtrack: Studio Ghibli Animated Feature Films

The seventh post is introducing the international soundtrack, which emphasized Studio Ghibli's Animated feature films. The reason for introducing those films is,  as I was raised and grew up in Japan, my family or most of my friends know some of these films. When we talk about those films, we remember the story and also the music.  In Studio Ghibli, Animated films director Hayao Miyazaki is known as the best director in Japan. In 2003, his film Spirited Away(2001) won the Oscar of best animated feature film. Since his films and Studio Ghibli are also known in the world, here is the video introducing director Miyazaki and differences between his animated films and other animated films.

To describe Miyazaki's film, composer Joe Hisaishi who is one of Miyazaki's coworkers, is willing to make his films what Miyzaki's think his movies follow nature and recognition of people. One of Hisai's scores is from Miyazaki's film My Neighbor Totoro (1988).

The score above can be interpreted as an ethnic score or animated film's score. But, for me, I have listened to the score many times, and alway felt the score makes me calm and bring me back to when I was around at age of five.

As I said, soundtrack could be filled more than half of making film process to make memorable for the audience so that the audience might enjoy watching by choosing preferred films. Eventually films are made in the world. If you had time to watch foreign films, such as I introduced on this post, you may get the sense of what movie fans are like in the country and could gain an an idea of the culture.

Here are more links if you are interested in this.

Blog Post #6 Horor Movie with Soundtrack

The sixth post is introducing horror films with soundtrack. Some movie fans like to watch horror films. Those give the audience a  huge scared or fearful impression. I prefer to watch them with someone to prevent too many frighting feelings. According to a psychological study, once people watched horror films, their feelings got from horror films might be misattributed to love relationship. If you're interested in this psychological study, I put the link below.

Psychological Study Horror film with love relationship

I did not have enough information about horror films. I also searched and found the link that lists of the best horror movies. One of the films on lists is Jaws (1975) director by Steven Spielberg. As I've mentioned the composer many times in my blog, John Williams composed the main theme of Jaws
The 100 best horror films

Another film on the list is Psycho (1960) directed by Alfredo Hitchcock. He was known for powerful, complex psychological thrillers. The film Psycho broke the standardization of horror films and created a new aspect of horror film. Here is the soundtrack of the film.

Not only those two films but any horror film needed powerful soundtrack as well as the other kinds of movies. Furthermore, horror films have more demands of using soundtrack for adding extreme feelings. This is just my thought that just listening to a horror film soundtrack is also to feel scared without watching the films.
